Boys Varsity Football · Coffman names Stokes as head football coach

Last night, the Coffman athletic department introduced the next head coach of the Rocks football program. Pending board approval, Geron Stokes, previously of Minster High School, will be taking the reins of the Shamrocks program. After an extensive search process, the committee landed on Stokes, and Coffman athletic director Duane Sheldon is excited to have him. “Coach Stokes is a great fit with the culture at Coffman.  We are looking forward to him continuing the Rocks tradition of excellence.  We welcome him to the Coffman family.”

Coach Stokes started his head coaching career at Urbana in 2009. He compiled a 29-13 record there, winning three league championships and qualifying for the playoffs twice (2011, and 2012)

In 2013, Geron moved on to Minster High School. There he amassed an overall record of 71-31. He won state championships in 2014 and 2017, and was state runner-up in 2016. Personal awards of his include the 2014 All-419 Coach of the Year and 2014 MVFCA Coach of the Year, Northwest District Division VII Coach of the Year, and 2019 MAC Co-Coach of the Year.

On being the new coach at Coffman, Stokes said, “We’re grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Coffman Football Tradition, the opportunity to get to work with high-quality people and the challenge it presents us!”
